In addition to the Horse Health Library, we have provided the following links to websites that provide some great information on a variety of topics related to horses and horse health care. We will update this page frequently, and would love to hear your ideas on links that you would like to see us add to this page to share with other horse owners. Feel free to send us your favorites. If we like them, we will add them to our list!

American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP):
The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) was founded in 1954 by a group of 11 charter members who saw that together they could direct the focus of equine veterinary medicine. Today, the AAEP, headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, represents an educated group of men and women who cover a broad range of equine disciplines, breeds and associations. Over 8,000 veterinarians and veterinary students in 57 countries are members of the AAEP. The AAEP's work includes the development and promotion of recommended practice guidelines; support for research, training and education; advocacy on behalf of the horse, veterinarians and horse owners; and providing timely distribution of information on health matters important to the equine industry. Nearly 5 million horse owners are served by the AAEP and its members.

The Horse:  Your Guide to Equine Health Care:
News and veterinarian-approved articles on equine health care from The Horse magazine online.

Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation:
For the past twelve years, the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation in Zimmerman, Minnesota has been rescuing and restoring the health of horses and other animals in distress. Just as dozens of humane societies offer dogs and cats a second chance at a loving home, our foundation finds permanent, caring adoptive homes for horses. Some of our horses are young and sound. Others are injured, ill due to extreme neglect, starved, or simply very old.

America's Healthy Horse:

America’s Healthy Horse is a joint educational initiative of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and Fort Dodge Animal Health designed to raise public awareness about the importance of seasonal wellness exams and professionally managed preventive care for every horse.

Pfizer Equine Health:
Whether horses are for show or trail, Pfizer Animal Health is committed to their well-being. We understand the serious consequences of disease and lameness, and that’s why we’ve developed a comprehensive range of safe and effective products to help professionals and individual horse owners keep their animals healthy.

Merial Horse Owner Site:

People who are passionate about horses lead the equine division of Merial. Whether you care for pleasure horses, racehorses, performance horses or working horses, Merial offers you products to protect them - products backed by a research and development team that ranks among the world's leaders in healthcare innovation.

Intervet/Schering-Plough Horse Care:
Whether you own horses for competition, breeding, or as companions, you want them to be as healthy as possible. Intervet is committed to helping you and your veterinarian keep your horses healthy and at their peak performance.

University of Minnesota Horse Extension Service:
The University of Minnesota (U of MN) Horse Program was developed in 2004, after two separate surveys demonstrated the state-wide need for horse owner education in Minnesota. The U of M Horse Program provides unbiased, research based information to horse owners to increase their knowledge and improve the quality of care for horses and their habitat in Minnesota. Primary program topics include general horse care and husbandry, horse health, forage utilization, and horse nutrition.

University of Minnesota Equine Center:
The University of Minnesota Equine Center will lead the world in integrating animal science and veterinary medical programs. The Equine Center has been identified by the Dean as a "Program of Excellence" within the College of Veterinary Medicine in conjunction with the University's initiative to become one of the top three research Universities worldwide within the next ten years. We will achieve this by developing a common equine facility focused on meeting the increasing need for equine education, veterinary services, scientific advances, and outreach programs related to the horse.

Purina Mills Horse Nutrition:

As any good horse person can tell you, good nutrition can’t compensate for poor horse management—and vice versa. They go hand in hand. Today, horses are living dramatically longer than they were just 20 years ago. Purina Mills is proud of the role they’ve played in that. In fact, with over 50 patents, it’s safe to say no other national brand of horse feed has invested more time in research and in understanding the needs of animals and the people who love them than Purina Mills.

Nutrena Equine Nutrition:

At Nutrena we know it takes optimum nutrition to help your horse to develop properly, stay healthy and perform to the best of its ability. While others only consider ingredients – we focus on nutrients. That’s why our equine nutritional solutions are formulated to deliver the right balance of nutrients your horse needs every day.  Peak performance means different things to different horse owners. If you ride a horse in competition, Nutrena has a feed that will help your horse achieve peak power and stamina. If trail riding with a companion horse is more your style, we have the perfect feed to keep your horse in tip-top shape and ready to ride.

Platinum Performance Equine:
Many horse owners buy an assortment of supplements, alternative medicine products and pharmaceuticals for their horses over the counter, online and from catalogues, getting much of their advice from non-professionals - and often without the input or knowledge of their veterinarians. It can be very difficult, if not risky, to decipher which products are the most efficacious, safe and economical. This can become a serious and pervasive problem that can impact the health, wellbeing and performance of your horses. Platinum is committed to providing veterinarians and their clients with effective preventative, therapeutic and sports nutrition to improve the health of the horse.

Minnesota Horse Council:

For the past twelve years The Minnesota Horse Council, a Minnesota not-for-profit Corporation, was founded in 1935 to provide a vehicle for horse owners and exhibitors to coordinate horse activities with the Minnesota State Fair Board. From the humble beginning the Minnesota Horse Council has evolved to be an umbrella organization uniting and supporting all statewide equine activities. The Minnesota Horse Council shall encourage and support equine related activities, concerns, and education.
